The French Rd Community Garden is a group of keen amateur gardeners who got together in mid-2024 to form a community garden based in grounds of the Wangi Uniting Church at 3 French Rd, Wangi. The group is composed of anyone in our local community who is interested - it is not limited to church members.
In October 2024, we were successful in getting a grant from the Hunter Presbytery of Uniting church, which will provide funds to get the garden going. We have purchased wicking beds for our gardens, and are installing and planting them at the front of the church and at the back.
The most exciting news is that Peter Bowen and Greg Bilson have built another frame and we have another raised garden bed. Woohoo! Thank you so much Peter and Greg. It looks great. They hope to get another one assembled next Wednesday. Everyone please thank Pete and Greg when you see them next.
Less exciting is this rain that looks to be here for a few more days! I have delayed the delivery of the soil and gravel until the rain stops and the delivery truck is less likely to churn up the lawn 🙁.
Our working days are Thursdays and Saturdays 9am to 11am (listed in the Activities Calendar on this website here
Saturday May 31st - Lake Mac Crop swap will replace our usual French Road Community Garden time. From 11am there will be a workshop on Vegetable Gardening 101 held by Purple Pear Farm. We hope to swap and sell plants and provide morning tea on this day. We would appreciate support from everyone especially those people who can cook scones or other morning tea goodies.
